My last class of this lot of Advanced classes. Nothing new learnt, just honing in and perfecting (or not) what we’ve already learnt.
Heelwork
As usual, we started with some heelwork and then some commands were introduced.
Down was fine. Next up was call your dog.
Then it was present – no issues here today.
Recall
Then we tried all three recalls.
Novice recall was up first. I asked Artemis to heel, wait, walked to the other side of the field, turned around, moved a little, and she came running towards me. I said “oh no” and then the other dogs came running too! Artemis being too eager and then I set off the other dogs when I spoke – oops!
Angled recall was much better, I made sure not to move at all this time!
A recall was also fine.
Hold and retrieve
The worst command so far!
Artemis didn’t really hold the tube, she did go towards the tube, but didn’t hold it. It was wet so maybe the tube was not a great texture for her to hold in her mouth.
The other dogs held their hold toys, but didn’t quite retrieve, instead they went running around the field with the hold toys in their mouths!
Send away
Standard cone formation today.
I asked Artemis to heel, wait, went to hide a treat at the end of the cones, removed Artemis’ lead, and she went sniffing for the treat then eventually went down when I asked her.
Artemis should have waited for my “away” command though. Perhaps I should remove the lead prior to hiding the treat so as not to distract her from the wait command.
Conclusion
Didn’t learn anything new today, but it appears we need to hone in on what we’ve already learnt.
